The President of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari, has appointed at least three dead men as Chairman of the Nigeria Press Council board.
In a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the name of a deceased octogenarian, Late Sen Francis Okpozo, from Ozoro, Delta State was published by the Nigeria government as Chairman of the Press Board.
The Late Okpozo was until his death in 2016 a second republic senator and until his death in 2016, a member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Late Senator Okpozo died in Benin City at 81 after a brief illness.
Late Dr Nabbs Imegwu of Rivers State also made the Buhari’s list.
Nigerians allege this must be a case of either chronic dementia or failed government that does not conduct search or screening before making appointments.
Among the Chairmen and members of Boards announced by the SGF included also people who are alive like Lagos Lawyer Festus Keyamo as well as the brother to music star, Davido, Mr Adewale Adeleke.
Senator Okpozo was mourned by the Nigeria President in 2016 through his media aide but his posthumous as Chairman of a Board by President Buhari and the Presidency of Nigeria appointment despite his demise for over a year betrays evidence of a serious integrity issue in the Presidency.
Some analysts have raised serious questions about the health of the president and the integrity of the presidency who apparently either didn’t screen names of persons for appointments or make blind appointments.
